When it comes to home décor, every detail matters. Even the smallest elements can significantly impact the overall aesthetics of your living space. One often overlooked detail is the doorknob. A doorknob is not just a functional tool, it’s also an opportunity to add style and personality to your home. Knowing what type of doorknob can be daunting in the selection process. But don’t worry, I will guide you through the process of choosing the perfect doorknob for your home and how I was able to find mine from Ageless Iron.
The first step is to determine your backset size and door thickness. To find the correct backset measurements of your door, measure the distance from the edge of the door to the center of your bore hole (as shown in the image above). The two common measurements are 2-3/8″ or 2-3/4″. You will also need to know the thickness of your door, which is usually 1-3/8″ or 1-3/4″ thick.
Handing means which way a door opens and is determined by the hinge location of the outside of the door. It can seem confusing, but luckily, Ageless Hardware has a blog to help find handing on your door. The closet shown in this image would be considered a right handing (meaning the hinges are located on the right hand side of the “outside” of the door). Knowing the handing is particularly important when you’re ordering a doorknob that needs to have a locking feature.
Passage – For doors that do not need to be locked. Examples of these doors are closets, pantries, laundry rooms, etc.
Privacy – For doors that require a lock, such as a bedroom or bathroom.
Dummy – Are doorknobs that are non-turning. They are instead meant to be pulled open and pushed close. These are often used on French doors.
The doorknob you choose should harmonize with the overall style of your home. Are you going for a contemporary, traditional or farmhouse look? Consider the architectural style and interior design of your house. I chose the Keep Long Plate with Keep Knob hardware. The rich, rustic styling of these doorknobs adds a touch of modern farmhouse charm to my home and the deep black finish provides a striking contrast against my white doors, creating a visually captivating focal point. Whether you’re renovating or building your dream home, Ageless Iron doorknobs enhance the overall aesthetic appeal, making a bold statement of refined taste.
The material of the doorknob not only affects its durability but also adds character to your home. Ageless Iron doorknobs are crafted from solid, cast iron, ensuring exceptional durability and longevity. I love knowing that each doorknob is meticulously manufactured to withstand daily use, providing worry-free performance for years to come.
Here are some other popular options to consider:
Home improvement projects can be intimidating, but with Ageless Iron doorknobs, installation was a breeze. These doorknobs came pre-mounted, eliminating the need for complicated assembly or specialized tools. With just two screws, I was able to securely attach the lock trim to my doors, saving time and effort. Detailed instructions were included and additional resources like online videos and customer service support are available to assist every step of the way. The user-friendly installation process ensures a hassle-free experience, even for those with limited DIY skills, allowing you to immediately enjoy the benefits of your new door hardware.
In conclusion, I absolutely love all of my new interior doorknobs from Ageless Iron. They have added a touch of sophistication, that enhanced both the visual appeal and functionality of my doors!
