When I decided to take on the final phase of my kitchen for the One Room Challenge, I knew I wanted to push the boundaries of what I’d done in the past. This space had seen a lot of changes over time (see where it all started), but it was time to take it to the next level. As with all my DIY projects, I leaned into research and experimentation to figure things out as I went. The result is a transformation that feels fresh, functional and stylish.
A key part of this makeover was upgrading the hardware on my cabinetry. I partnered with Emtek, whose hardware brought the perfect balance of elegance and durability to the space. I chose satin brass latches, knobs and pulls with backplates for the cabinetry. The craftsmanship and design of Emtek’s hardware added the perfect level of sophistication and tied the room together beautifully. While part of the kitchen still has the previous hardware, I’d love to eventually finish the space by upgrading everything to Emtek’s beautiful hardware.
I also used Emtek’s flat black entry door lever on the glass patio door, which completed the look and gave the door a sleek, modern upgrade. The door lever’s design fit perfectly with the rest of the kitchen and created a beautiful transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces.
Completing this makeover as part of the One Room Challenge was no easy feat, but it pushed me to focus and deliver a space that I’m incredibly proud of. The journey didn’t stop there, though! I’ve just finished installing new flooring and a rolling ladder in the kitchen, adding both style and functionality. Now, the kitchen is not only the heart of my home, but also a place that feels welcoming and practical.
